2021 NYAC State Team selection process announced

The 2021 National Youth Archery Championships have been confirmed by Archery Australia, and are to be held in Burnie, Tasmania from 14 – 20 April, 2021.

Due to the issues surrounding restrictions etc. the normal Victorian Team Selection process does not allow our youth athletes to gain selection as outlined in our State Team Selection documents.

As such, the Archery Victoria Board tasked the State Team Selection Committee with designing a bespoke selection process for the 2021 NYACs taking into account the lack of opportunities for our youth athletes to both train and compete over 2020.

The State Team Selection process for NYAC 2021 is shown below.   This is a one off process for 2021 and only applies to the NYAC.

Selection processes for the other National Championships are currently being developed, and will be published ASAP.

The attached process describes a single target selection event in February 2021.   This event is likely to be run on 6th February, 2021 at Angel Archers.

There will also be options available for the shooting of a field score over the selection period as well.

The selection period commences as of the 15th Dec, 2021 and closes at 2pm on the date of the target selection event outlined above.

It should be noted that athletes wishing to qualify will need to shoot scores in the division they intend to enter (or are entitled to enter) at the championships.

Archery Victoria has uploaded all notified tournaments and events for 2021 to the website.  Event Info & Online Entry links will be loaded as they are confirmed and made available.

Remember to keep an eye on the AV Calendar for updates and changes as they occur.

Archery Victoria 2021 National Youth Archery Championship (NYAC) youth team selection process

Scope: For 2021 NYAC due to Covid19 disrupted tournament calendar

Ranking Period: Dec 15, 2020 to 2pm on the date of the selection event described below (planned for mid-February, 2021). Only scores from during this period will be considered for all youth archers.

Eligibility: Archers must be continuous Archery Victoria (AV) members for the entire selection period through to the completion of NYAC 2021.

To be selected archers must attend and competently participate in a compulsory AV clout training day and must enter and diligently shoot all team competition rounds at 2021 NYAC (these are Clout, Field, 2 x target).

The AV NYAC 2021 Recurve & Compound teams will each be the selection of the top 10 ranked archers that meet all requirements in this document. An honorary Barebow team will also be selected.

N.B.: The selection period is tight to try and get uniform in time, but there is a risk uniform may not arrive in time.

Cub, Intermediate and Cadet age divisions

There will be a compulsory target archery selection event held mid-February 2021 at Angel Archers. It will be a 144-arrow event for the same round the archers will shoot at 2021 NYAC. In the event of extreme weather (per Archery Australia policy) the event may be shortened to the half version (i.e. 3 ends at each distance) or if that is not possible scores from QRE & Tournament will be carefully considered by the State Team Selection committee for the purpose of making the selection ranking.

If the archer has obtained a tournament or QRE field score from their 2021 NYAC peg and bow type during the qualifying period, 20% of this will be added to the selection event target score. This does not form a compulsory part of selection criteria but enhances the chance of selection by increasing the aggregate score.

Ranking score will be made using –

‘144-arrow target ranking event score’ + 20% ‘field score’.

N.B. the ranking will combine the U20 archers

20 & Under division (aka Junior)

The archers will be ranked using scores for the same target rounds they will shoot at 2021 NYAC from tournaments, QRE, VRE. They must also include a round with their maximum 2021 NYAC distance (this can be from a 144 round or WA/AA/AV720 round at tournament, QRE, VRE).

If the archer has obtained a tournament or QRE field score from their 2021 NYAC peg and bow type during the qualifying period, 20% of this will be added to their target scores. This does not form a compulsory part of selection criteria but enhances the chance of selection by increasing the aggregate score.

Ranking score will be made using 2021 NYAC correct rounds of –

Highest of ‘WA1440 score’ + 20% ‘field score’ or
1.5*‘WA720 score’+ 0.5*’max distance 720 score) +20% ‘field score’

N.B. U20 ranking will be combined with the younger archers

Caveat:

In the event of a disruption to the ranking process due to Vic Government health guidelines/rules/regulations the State Team Committee will objectively rank the archers to the best of its ability and recommend the resultant teams to the AV Board.
