Meet Irene – Passionate Coach and Trusted Mentor
With a deep-rooted passion for archery that began in 2003, Irene’s journey started as a supportive
mum on the sidelines. Since then, she’s worn many hats—club committee member, coach, and
competitive barebow archer—each one adding to her wealth of experience in the sport. Today,
Irene proudly holds a number of National Records in barebow divisions, but her true calling lies
in coaching.
As a Level 3 Pathways Coach and the Victorian State Coaching Co-ordinator, Irene is
dedicated to guiding athletes at every stage—from first-timers picking up a bow to elite
competitors representing at State, National, and International levels. She coaches athletes
across all bow types. Her coaching style is shaped by her own success as a high-level athlete
across multiple sports, combined with years of corporate coaching experience, allowing her to
develop athletes both mentally and physically.
Irene believes in building champions through a team approach. She tailors individual training
plans, fosters open communication with athletes (and with parents/guardians for juniors), and
holds her archers accountable for their growth.
As an accredited coach presenter and assessor with Archery Australia, Irene also shares her
expertise with fellow coaches, helping to elevate coaching standards across the state.

Marcus Anear

Club: Tooborac Archers

Coaching Certificate: Level 3.

Cost: $45 per 30min

Archery has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father competed at the 1976 Olympics, and I picked up a bow at a young age, starting competition at 12. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of representing Victoria and Australia as both a youth and adult archer.

With over 40 years in the sport, I’ve learned from some of the world’s best coaches and built a coaching approach that helps archers get the very best out of themselves. Whether you’re just starting out or aiming for international success, I focus on the key areas that unlock performance — from tuning and technique to mindset and confidence.

Over the years, I’ve coached dozens of archers who have gone on to represent Australia on the world stage in compound, recurve, and barebow. My athletes have competed at the World Championships, the Vegas Shoot, and the Paralympics, achieving results well beyond what they first imagined possible.

I’ve also coached at two World Youth Championships, the Asia Cup, the Vegas Shoot, and within the AIS and VIS programs, as well as leading Victoria’s State Youth Championship Team.

What I specialize in:

  • Equipment tuning across all bow types

  • Building a strong and consistent shot process

  • Overcoming target panic and mental blocks

  • Biomechanics and technique optimization

  • Sports psychology and peak performance strategies

  • Troubleshooting performance challenges

No matter your goals, I’ll work with you to find solutions, build confidence, and help you get more from your archery.

Traditional and recurve archery are my main disciplines.  I am available most afternoons by agreement
I have been involved with archery for five years and started coaching In my first club after a year of being a member.
For  three years I was running all the beginners lessons for the club and also coached few developing archers in that time.
Most of my archery journey I had to rely on online sources for my development and I would like to help new and maybe some not so new archers develop faster and with less frustration than I have.
I like to utilise some traditional and modern methods and tools in my coaching sessions.
As an archer my highest achievement is the 2025 Archery NSW 50+ champion and also couple of second places in NSW 50+ target championships .

I have competed in many formats of archery, from Target, to field, clout and 3D Archery disciplines.

Alongside competing, I am deeply involved in the sport as a Coach, Event Judge, and long‑standing club leader. I am known for supporting archers with coaching, equipment setup, and technical bow work.
