2023 National Target Championships
The 2023 National Target Championships were held at Samford Valley in Brisbane this year from the 27th September to 2nd October.
Victoria sent a State Team of 15 archers to compete for the RGB Teams divisions, and many other Victorian archers attended as individuals to make Victoria one of the larger ‘teams’ attending.
Our State Team members shot very well for the tournament, resulting in Victoria winning the RGB Teams Recurve trophy, and the RGB Teams Barebow Trophy.
Our compound Team also shot well finishing only 60 points behind the eventual winners.
Our Individual archers had great success taking out 6 Gold, 6 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals in the 1440 Round, then 9 Gold, 2 Silver, & 6 Bronze in the 900 Round.
Overall there was a total of 15 Gold, 8 Silver, & 8 Bronze taken by Victorian archers in the combined events.
Matchplay was then next on the schedule for our archers.
The qualifying round for Matchplay saw Victorians take 3 first places, 1 second place, and 2 third places in the individual rankings.
This then led to an avalanche of medals in the Individual, Teams, & Mixed Teams events producing 1 Individual and 6 Team Gold medals, 1 Individual and 4 Team Silver medals, and 1 Individual and 10 Team Bronze medals. We also had 2 more archers make the finals taking out 4th place.
The final tally for the Matchplay is 7 Gold, 5 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals – a very pleasing outcome.
One highlight from the event was the performance of Faith Hastie in the Female Compound division – her performances were so compelling that she has been named in the National Squad for the Compound Program which will lead to to competing at International events representing Australia over the coming year.
Well Done Faith!
Overall it was an excellent event for Victoria and our archers – Well done to everyone who competed!
